So yesterday was day one of training for the Innovative Fitness Adventure Challenge.
This particular training session was meet with some of the Innovative Fitness instructors. I for one love the opportunity to work with people who are able to give me tips and teach me a new thing or two. Throughout the following 11 weeks until event day, there will be a few kayaking, mountain biking, and trail running training sessions where trainers are going to be present; and although it’s not mandatory, I definitely plan on taking advantage of that!
To kick off the training, we were supposed to do an “intro to trail running”, but somehow we ended up doing a full 5km!! Now I know that a 5km is not that far, specially to somebody who has just recently completed an Olympic distance triathlon, but it just makes me wonder what the “non-intro” training sessions will consist of!
All complaining aside, the weather was great, the run was awesome; I managed to do it in 36 minutes. For my very first training session, I am very pleased.
Now, as you will find out in the future posts, I am a HUGE fan of recovery time. HUGE! I believe in stretching after any kind of exercise (cardio and strength training), refueling my body with water and protein (I often have whey after most workouts), and after a very long or hard training session I like to use a pair of compression socks which I find helps me with recovery.
So after my run on Tuesday, I did non of the above! Well actually I did have whey, but it was much later (it’s been said that you should get protein in your system within the first 30 minutes after finishing a workout…I’ve also read somewhere that it might actually be within the first 15 minutes).
I didn’t stretch. At the end of my run I got distracted talking to a few of the other competitors and trainers, and I was also very busy scratching the mosquito bites (ouch!). I definitely paid for it today though; both of my calves are as tight as a rock!
RECOVERY IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS TRAINING FOR EACH SPECIFIC DISCIPLINE!!
Come back every few days as I will continue to provide the play-by-play of my training for this very important cause!
